Disclosure rules for paid political content
Paid political and sponsored content needs a clear disclosure. That usually means a paid for by line for political content, an FTC-style disclosure such as #ad for sponsorships, and following each platform's own rules. TikTok doesn't allow paid political content at all.
The basics
- Paid for by: paid political content usually needs a line naming who paid for it.
- FTC disclosures: sponsored posts need a clear disclosure like #ad or the platform's paid partnership label.
- Platform rules: each platform has its own policy. TikTok bans paid political content from creators.
Our approach
Every paid post we run carries the disclosure the law, the platform and the client require. This guide isn't legal advice, so check with your counsel for your situation.
