What Ashley Moody Is Responsible For
- One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Ashley Moody cast one of the 50 votes for the law, which passed 50 to 50 with the Vice President's tie-breaker; KFF projects it will add 590,000 uninsured people in Florida, and Moody called its passage "a historic moment".
- ACA premiums. Moody voted against extending the enhanced ACA tax credits in June 2025 and December 2025; after they expired, more than 440,000 Floridians left the ACA marketplace, the largest drop in the nation.
- Rural hospitals. Moody voted against Senator Ed Markey's motion to send the bill back to committee with instructions to strip provisions that would make rural hospitals more likely to close or cut services, which failed 49 to 51.
- Food assistance. The law Moody voted for makes Florida pay about $984 million toward SNAP benefits because of its error rate, and she voted against an amendment to strike a delay in the SNAP cost-share requirement.
- Medicare. Moody voted against waiving budget rules for an amendment creating a point of order to protect seniors on Medicare from higher drug costs; the motion, which needed 60 votes, failed 49 to 50, and the law she backed could add close to $10 billion in Medicare spending through the orphan drug change.
- Social Security. Moody cast a deciding vote against reversing DOGE cuts to the Social Security Administration, which failed 49 to 50, as Florida field offices lost nearly 5% of staff.
- Tariffs. Moody's no vote kept the global tariff emergency in place in a 49 to 49 vote; New York Fed economists found nearly 90 percent of the 2025 tariffs were passed through to U.S. import prices.
- Orange juice and Brazil. Moody voted against ending the Brazil tariff emergency (roll call 594), a tariff an importer said could raise orange juice prices by 20% to 25%.
- DOGE and hurricane forecasting. Moody voted against barring DOGE from using appropriated funds and against reinstating fired veterans, after DOGE cuts reached NOAA staff supporting the National Hurricane Center.
- Epstein files. Moody voted to table an amendment directing release of the Epstein files, which passed 51 to 49, and voted to confirm the Justice Department leaders who missed the December 2025 deadline.
- Health agency leadership. Moody voted to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services and Mehmet Oz to run Medicare and Medicaid, the officials carrying out the law's coverage changes in Florida.
- Affordable Care Act lawsuit. As Florida attorney general, Moody continued Florida's role as a plaintiff in the case to strike down the ACA after Florida groups asked her to withdraw.
