Ultimately a constitutional amendment is the only foolproof way to eliminate gerrymandering. If for no other reason, it's an incentive to making control of legislatures a high priority for Dems.

We could use a series of constitutional amendments like those in the 1860s to strengthen democracy. Forcing Congress to fulfill its role as a co-equal branch of government should be a priority.

Folks, we haven't been living in a democracy for decades. Thanks to the evilness of the republican regime. They've been gerrymandering states for decades. And it has gotten worse. This needs to end.

If the United States were to fall under a tyrannical government, the "right thing to do" is a complex question with historical, philosophical, and legal considerations, but generally involves exercising the right of revolution as articulated in the Declaration of Independence, using methods such as civil disobedience, nonviolent resistance, protecting civic institutions, and, if necessary, armed resistance. The specific actions would depend on the nature of the tyranny and the circumstances faced by the people, as history has shown, but the foundational principle is the people's ultimate authority to resist oppression.

Historical & Philosophical Foundations

Right of Revolution: The Declaration of Independence states that when a government becomes destructive of the people's rights and aims to reduce them under "absolute despotism," the people have the right and duty to throw off such a government and institute a new one.

Self-Defense: The Second Amendment, as interpreted by the Supreme Court, codifies an individual's right to self-defense, which can extend to self-defense against a tyrannical government.

Methods of Resistance

Nonviolent Resistance: This includes tactics like mass protests, boycotts, and strikes to disrupt the societal order and advocate for change.

Disruption and Disobedience: Actively disobeying unjust laws or policies can undermine a tyrannical government's authority.

Defending Civic Institutions: Strengthening and defending the institutions of democracy can help counter the efforts of authoritarians to twist these institutions for personal gain.

Building Alternatives: Creating alternative forms of governance, community, and information dissemination can offer a path forward.

Armed Resistance: A well-armed citizenry can provide a last line of defense against tyranny, enabling the people to forcibly resist oppression.

Legal Considerations

18 U.S. Code Β§ 2385: This federal law makes it a crime to organize or become a member of any group that advocates the overthrow of the U.S. government. While this law exists, the act of resisting a truly tyrannical government is often seen as a justification under the broader framework of the right to revolution.

Practical Advice for Citizens

Stay Informed and Alert: Pay attention to the use of dangerous words like "extremism" or "emergency" and be critical of their use by authorities.

Protect Your Digital and Personal Information: Be mindful of digital security and the use of alternative communication methods to avoid government surveillance.

Maintain Connections: Foster connections with friends and family, both domestically and internationally, to gain broader perspectives.

Set a Good Example: Be a patriot by demonstrating the positive values of America through your actions and by setting a good example for future generations.
