BREAKING: Trump's New Insider Trading Scheme Has Been EXPOSED
Donald Trump has spent a year moving markets with a single Truth Social post. He announces tariffs. He hints at Fed leadership changes. He signals war and peace, sometimes in the same sentence. Now he is charging Wall Street for the privilege of seeing those posts before everyone else.
The social media posts of the world’s most powerful man are going on sale, when his Truth Social business begins offering sneak peeks of them to Wall Street traders willing to pay up.
It’s blatant insider trading from a president who’s already made billions profiting off the office of the presidency.
What They’re Selling
Trump Media & Technology Group is now shopping to traders and investors a premium version of Truth Social delivering early access to the feeds of high-profile users, including the president. For a fee of up to $100,000 a month, trading firms can access “Truth API” to get a glimpse of the president’s often market-moving announcements about economic policy and global affairs before the rest of the world sees them.
Such an offering would give institutional investors a leg up in areas of finance like high-frequency trading, where an advantage of a few milliseconds can mean the difference of millions of dollars.
Trump’s company has already confirmed demand exists. Trump’s media company says customers have already started signing up.
How Much This Actually Matters
This is not a hypothetical advantage. Trump’s posts have already moved specific markets in specific, predictable ways.
With advanced knowledge, traders betting on a plunge in the Canadian dollar, a drop in nuclear energy stocks and a jump in oil futures could have raked in big profits.
“For the big guys, it’s going to be something they need,” said Joe Saluzzi, co-founder of Themis Trading, who estimates about 100 high-frequency firms might be willing to pay for the service. “It’s market-moving information.”
One hundred trading firms. Paying up to $100,000 a month each. For a head start on the president’s own words.
Is This Legal?
Legal experts say the arrangement runs directly into federal insider trading law.
Renée Jones, a Boston College professor and former top official at the Securities and Exchange Commission, said the paid offering appears to run afoul of insider trading laws. She pointed to federal securities laws prohibiting schemes in which non-public information is misused to give a trader an unfair advantage. The law states that sharing such information is a breach of “a duty or trust of confidence.”
“So if the president’s Truth Social posts are being monetized, and if some people get special access to them, that’s misappropriated information,” Jones said. “And by giving people his posts early, he is also violating his duty of trust and confidence.”
“If this was the CEO of a public company, this would be jail time,” said Irene Aldridge, head of Able Alpha Trading, which is declining to buy the service.
The Line Between Trump and the Government Has Basically Disappeared
The service is troubling not just because Trump owns a stake in the company selling it, but because his Truth Social account has become, functionally, an arm of official government communication.
The president breaks news on Truth Social so often that the White House press office will copy his posts into an email when responding to media questions about policy. If his posts aren’t available yet, journalists are sometimes told, “Wait for the Truth.”
Reporters covering the White House are told to wait for a private company’s paid product to publish official government policy first.
Trump’s Company Isn’t Denying Any of It
Asked directly whether this was appropriate, the White House would not answer for itself.
Asked about the propriety of the new service and whether White House lawyers had vetted it, Trump’s press office declined to comment, referring questions to Truth Social’s publicly traded parent.
That company, Trump Media & Technology Group, issued a statement blasting Democratic critics for mischaracterizing the service “out of ideological opposition to free markets or a failure to grasp the distinction between public and nonpublic information, or, quite possibly, both.”
They did not deny that the president’s posts move markets. They did not deny that paying customers get them first. They attacked the people asking the question.
This Isn’t the First Time
On the morning of April 9, President Trump posted on Truth Social “THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT.” Around four hours later, he announced a pause on some new tariffs, causing a stock market spike.
Democrats demanded an investigation into that post at the time. Nothing came of it. Now Trump’s company has built an entire subscription product around the exact dynamic that raised those questions in the first place, and is charging for it openly.
Even His Own Company Needs the Money
Stock in the Truth Social parent has plunged 75% since Trump took office last year as the company keeps reporting hundreds of millions in losses, despite the president’s help driving traffic to its site by posting major decisions there.
Trump Media has been bleeding money. This new product is a direct answer to that problem: monetize the one asset the company has that nobody else does, which is advance access to the president’s own words.
The Bottom Line
Donald Trump routinely uses his personal social media platform to announce government policy that moves markets. His company now sells early access to those exact posts to Wall Street trading firms, for up to $100,000 a month. Securities law experts say the arrangement likely violates federal insider trading law. The White House won’t say whether its own lawyers reviewed it. Trump’s company’s response was to attack the people asking questions, not to explain why this is legal.
“It’s insane,” said one Wall Street trader.
The president of the United States is selling a subscription to his own words, to the people best positioned to profit from knowing them first.
