The First Affair: Corruption With a Side of Infidelity

The first woman was Laura Olson. And this one didn’t just blow up his marriage; it helped get him impeached.

His own senior staffers testified under oath that real estate developer Nate Paul, who was under FBI investigation at the time, hired Olson as a personal favor to Paxton. The attorney general of Texas used his official power to protect a man under federal investigation. That man thanked him by employing his mistress. A straight-up corrupt quid pro quo with his affair partner sitting right in the middle of it.

Paxton survived the impeachment. Angela stood by him through the whole ugly thing: sat in the Senate chamber, heard the testimony, and stayed.

Craig Long II, 41, a Tampa fitness influencer with nearly 700,000 followers, was arrested in a human trafficking sting operation. That alone would have made local news. Then investigators mentioned the photos of Long grinning alongside Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr. at a UFC event in Miami. Three weeks before his arrest.

Sheriff Chad Judd made sure the press conference was unforgettable.

“Well, I’m going to give him some content for his social media today,” Judd said into the cameras. “He was a previous felon who straightened up, really what we want to see in life. Now he’s an influencer.”

He let that hang in the air for a moment.

“Well, there you go. Got arrested in a human trafficking sting. Influence that for a while.”

The clip went viral before the press conference even ended.

Long built his entire brand around hard work, masculinity, and absolute loyalty to Donald Trump. His X bio reads “MAGA to the core.” He spent years marketing himself as a reformed man, a bootstrap success story who climbed from felony convictions to fitness empire to the inner circles of Republican power. He was photographed with the president. He had the followers. He had the brand.

He had a Hillsborough County sheriff waiting for him too.

Now those photos of Long beaming next to Trump and Trump Jr. are everywhere, and the questions are getting louder. How does a man with a prior felony record and an apparent appetite for trafficking-related activity get that close to a sitting president? How does nobody notice? How does nobody ask?

Trump’s team will say a photo at a public event means nothing. And technically, they are right. But this is the same political movement that spent years screaming about Democratic elites and secret trafficking rings. They turned “groomer” into a campaign slogan. They made child exploitation their signature culture war weapon.

One of their most vocal influencers just got caught in a sex trafficking sting.

The Republican Party does not get to own the issue of protecting women and children while this keeps happening inside their own ranks. This is not a coincidence anymore. It is a pattern, and voters are watching.

Long’s fitness pages and MAGA content have gone completely dark since the arrest. No posts. No explanation. No accountability.

Republicans have spent decades lecturing Americans about morality, family values, and the sanctity of children. Here is what that actually looks like in Indiana.

Jonathan Peternel, 24, the son of a pastor with direct ties to Indiana’s Republican Lt. Governor, was just sentenced to six years in prison for child exploitation and possession of child sexual abuse material. He did not just possess it. He distributed it in a Snapchat group he named “Diddy Disciples,” a tribute to a convicted sex trafficker.

Let that sink in.

His father, Nathan Peternel, is the lead pastor at Life Church and a close personal mentor to Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith. The two men co-hosted a podcast called “Jesus, Sex and Politics,” where they regularly lectured Hoosiers about sexual morality, Christian virtue, and the role of faith in government. Two episodes were quietly deleted after police raided the family home. One of those deleted episodes was specifically about fighting child abuse and sex trafficking.

You genuinely cannot make this up.

Investigators found over 200 files of child sexual abuse material on Jonathan’s devices, including AI-generated images of nude minors and content described in court documents as sadomasochistic child abuse. This was not a momentary lapse in judgment. This was deliberate, systematic, and organized enough to involve a named group chat dedicated to sharing it.

And where is Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith? Silent. Completely, cowardly silent. His mentor’s family is at the center of one of Indiana’s most disturbing criminal cases this year, and the man who built his entire political brand on Christian morality has not said a single word. He was not even at the sentencing.

This is not a coincidence. This is a pattern.

The Republican Party has made a political industry out of accusing Democrats of being soft on child safety. They push bathroom bills, book bans, and baseless grooming conspiracies targeting LGBTQ+ people and teachers. They wrap themselves in the language of child protection while their own ranks continue to produce these headlines with stunning regularity.

Meanwhile the judge in this case, to his credit, did not flinch. “Egregious behavior is egregious behavior,” Judge Dudley said from the bench. He imposed the maximum sentence allowed under the plea agreement. Peternel will spend four years in state prison and must register as a sex offender for life.

The podcast about sexual morality is gone quiet. The episodes about protecting children have been deleted. The lieutenant governor has nothing to say. And somewhere, Republican operatives are already preparing their next campaign ad about Democratic threats to your family.

Voters deserve to see this clearly. The people screaming loudest about morality are often the ones with the most to hide. The party that has turned “groomer” into a political weapon just watched one of its own pastor’s sons get sentenced for running a child pornography distribution ring named after a convicted sex trafficker.
